FAMILY SPONSORSHIP

WHAT IS FAMILY SPONSORSHIP?

A Canadian citizen, a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act, or a permanent resident of Canada can sponsor their relatives to Canada.

The Canadian sponsor must be at least 18 years of old and must meet the “Sponsor eligibility requirements” which includes financial stability and an unblemished criminal record. An eligible Canadian sponsor can initiate a PR application for certain relatives to come to Canada.


 

The following relatives can be sponsored:

  • spouse         

  • common-law partner

  • conjugal partner

  • son or daughter

  • parent

  • grandparent

  • orphaned brother or sister

  • orphaned nephew or niece

  • orphaned grandchild

Sponsored relatives can live, study and work in Canada if they become permanent residents of Canada.
